Paper Outline
1. Title page
• Title of your paper
• Student Name
• Course/section
• Your TA Name
• Date
• Optional: you may include a photo
• This page is not included in the page numbering
2. Introduction
• Attention grabber (e.g., shocking statistic, rhetorical question)
• Background about the topic
• THESIS statement (e.g., In this paper I will present alternative position on the topic of …..”)
3. Perspective 1
• Explain this perspective
• Who are the general proponents of this perspective
• At least 1 peer-reviewed article supporting this perspective
• More than one peer-reviewed reference is fine (and in many cases will likely be the case)
• To explain a perspective, you may use other sources of information that express a position on the topic (e.g., books, magazine articles, websites). Please cite them according to APA style citations. However, these are not considered peer-reviewed
4. Perspective 2 (see Perspective 1)
5. Perspective 3 (optional, see Perspective 1)
6. Conclusion
• Discuss which position is more persuasive and why
• This is not simply your opinion on how you feel about the topic. You need to justify which position (or combination of the positions) is supported best.
• This is an exercise in critical thinking !

7. References
• Use APA style in-text citation (Note: The entire paper is NOT in APA format, only the citation style and references.)
• For each perspective in your paper you must have at least 1 peer-reviewed reference. To show this, please identify one reference for perspective 1 by adding this note after the reference (in bold) “Note: This peer-reviewed reference was used for perspective 1.” Likewise, add a similar note for a peer-reviewed reference used for perspective 2: “Note: This peer-reviewed reference was used for perspective 2.
• This allows the graders to verify that you have included a peer-reviewed article for each perspective.
