This is a document written in the format of a research proposal document.
This is an individual and not a group or collaborative task.

Clarity and conciseness
Overall, the marking scheme should reward more highly those responses which are written in a simple and straightforward, yet intelligent and knowledgeable manner. The title:

• Does the title point at the possibility of the research moving from a background field to a focal field of study (i.e. the funnel effect)?
• Does the title point towards and indicate a piece of research which is achievable overall?
Aims and Objectives
• There should be no more than two aims at most, one is more common and perhaps preferable
• The aim should indicate the broad intent and general direction of the study
• The number of objectives is usually between 2 and 4 however fewer are preferable in order to focus and direct the research
• Objectives should be similar to, aligned with, and amplifications of the aim(s).
Background Context and/or Problem Statement
• This section should map out the general area of interest and the issue that is to be examined. Alternatively, expressed it will identify the domain(s) where ‘gaps’ and outstanding questions exist and need to be addressed.
Literature Review
• This section should consider the literature bases which are relevant to the title and research question.
• Linked to the title, research question, aims and objectives there should be at most two literatures, and ideally primarily only one, which needs to focused on.
• The literature review needs to be explored using critical analysis involving the process of laying down information, inference and implication
• The literature review needs to be properly referenced
• The literature review needs to present an argument by the research proposal author in relation to the identified literature bases.
Methodology
• The methodology section of research proposal needs to map out the overarching philosophical, epistemological, ontological and axiological framework that it is employing.
• Within, and in relation to, the overarching framework, the methodology section needs to identify appropriate research methods which respond to the research question, aims and objectives.
• The methodology section needs to elaborate and explain why the chosen approach was identified and elected over alternative methodological approaches.
Approach to Analysis
• By what method, technique and how will the data which have been gathered be analysed?
• What are the strengths and weaknesses of this chosen method?
Approach to Writing Up
• How will the analysed data be presented and written up?
• What format will be employed: case study, thematic, narrative, storytelling, statistical analysis?
Research Schedule/Timetable
• The research proposal requires a schedule which respects the SMART criteria:
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Framed
Ethical Considerations
• The research proposal must demonstrate awareness of any potential ethical issues, either for the respondents or the researcher, that are associated with the research.
Bibliography/References
• The research proposal must contain academic references to source material and must be referenced properly.
• The work may also, additional to the references, contain a bibliography. The bibliography is comprised of materials which have played a role in generating the research proposal but which are not directly cited in the text.

• Any late submissions will result in a 10 mark deduction per 24 hours.

Late submission
• Assessed work submitted late (without valid extension) will be penalised in accordance with the University’s guidelines as outlined in the University’s Handbook: The Assessment of Students.
• The penalty incurred will be 10 marks for anything up to 24 hours after a deadline, and 10 marks per day after this (including weekends).
• Non-submission of assessed work will result in zero (0%) being awarded for that element of assessed work.
• If you have to re-sit a piece of work there may be a financial charge levied for this and your grade will be capped at maximum mark of 40%.
