The strawman rhetorical strategy is derived from the Straw Man Logical Fallacy. The strawman strategy is aimed at helping writers avoid misinterpreting writings of other writers. The structure of the strawman strategy is made up of an introduction with a thesis, first body paragraph containing the main opposing argument and refuted arguments and a second body paragraph with the major supporting argument of the thesis. The major benefit of the strategy is that it helps writers to discredit highly flawed thinking leading to the developing of a strong research paper. However, one of the potential risks of the strawman strategy is that it makes writers prone to committing the strawman logical fallacy.

On the other hand, concession strategy is made up of an introduction with a strong thesis, the first body paragraph presenting opposing arguments and demonstrating the understanding of their position, and a third paragraph of the concession demonstrating the essential benefits ignored by the opposing arguments that support the thesis of the paper. The benefit of the concession strategy is that it creates opportunities for dialogue. However, the concession strategy makes a writer prone to engaging in too much people-pleasing and risk of under-developing the supported position.
The similarity between both strategies
The similarity between the strawman and concession strategies is that they all require writers to always point out to the thesis and ensure that the body paragraphs are heading to the supported direction. Based on what I have learned regarding the two rhetorical strategies, I believe that both are effective in developing strong research papers if they effectively used by writers. However, if I was to choose between the two strategies, I will use the concession approach. In my research paper, I hope to take into consideration the opinions of other writers and offer my point of view rather than completely refuting their point of views, which is majorly encouraged by the concession strategy.
