Explain the importance of safe guarding children and young people Safeguarding children and young people raises issues of confidentiality that must be clearly understood by everyone in the work setting. In my work setting we have a safeguarding issue that states how to protect and keep children safe. we keep children safe by doing a register so that we know how many children are in the class in case of a fire , we also get parents to sign their child in and out as well as visitors ,also if a child is being abused this comes in to the safeguarding policy and child protection because every child has the right to be protected and kept safe and if a child was being abused and told me something I can’t say I will keep it a secret because every child matters so I would have to tell my manager and my manger would have a word with the child’s parent(s) and if I was to think my manager wasn’t doing enough as the safe guarding and child protection then I could take it higher that my manager.

Question 2

Explain the importance of a child or young-person centred approach.

The child centred approach promotes the right of the child to choose, make connections and communicate. It allows freedom for children to think, experience, explore, question and search for answers. It presents a creative celebration of children’s work. I as a practitioner take on different roles everyday so that children have different experiences in different things such as role play this is changed often so that children can experience different ways of communicating and relate to real life situation and so that they can talk freely to myself and other members of staff.

Question 3

Explain what is meant by partnership working in the context of safeguarding.

It is important to work in partnership with other organisations to safeguard children and young people in order to share relevant information and to take appropriate action to safeguard and protect. Different professionals and agencies should work together to help children and young people and their family early on where there are difficulties, they should not wait until serious things start to happen before taking action for example a health visitor may notice that an adult is getting stressed by the behaviour of a child or young person and is finding it hard to cope. The early intervention may involve talking to the parent(s) showing sympathy and perhaps finding some support for her at the local children’s centre or setting up for a home visit. This would be much better than waiting to see if the situation becomes much worse before doing anything. Although there is still a common view that social workers swoop in to take the vast majority or social work so about helping different agencies work together to support the family so that the child or young person safety and wellbeing are assured.

Question 4

Describe the roles and responsibilities of the different organisations that may be involved when a child or young person has been abused or harmed.

The role of me as a practitioner is to listen carefully to what the child says and tell a member of staff and be aware we can also take the parent aside in a confidential place and tell the parent what the child or young person said if they are being abused emotionally but if a child is being neglected we must write down in the child’s care plan what they have had to eat and what they are wearing but if a child is being physically abused then we must mark it down on a body map and include the child’s name and the date we noticed the bruise / other physical signs also the person who noticed this must fill out the body map with the name date and time. My responsibility as a pre-school assistant is to make sure that I have put down the exact works the child or young person said and report it to a member of staff. Other organisation that may be involved could be the NSPCC ( National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) the NSPCC’s role is to make sure that the child is safe and protected by making sure that the child is in the best place in case of a serious situation and that if a child has had serious warning and visits by social workers or health visitors as well as the nspcc and are not meeting the correct standards set by these organisations then a child or young person could be put in foster care or be re united with a responsible and stable family member that will not harm or abuse the child or young person.
