Your Review will include the following:

1. Begin with a thesis statement that explains what book you will discuss and what main points you will be making.
2. Next, follow with a brief summary of the book with specific details from the chapters/units/sections but do not simply define the topic.
3. For the body of your review, discuss the approach/es the author takes in their analysis of the topic at hand as you address the following:.
a. Is the author’s approach Anthropological?
b. Why/Why not is the topic analyzed through an anthropological perspective?
c. Your analysis of the topic as an Applied Biological Anthropologist
4. Assume that the reader has read the book. You should reference examples or details as they relate to the point you are making. Your essay should analyze the topic—what does it mean to society? Why is it (or isn’t it) important? The ultimate goal here is to say something about the book that the reader couldn’t learn from simply reading the book.

Mechanics:

When you write about academic literature, you should always be in the present tense. The idea is that the science is still happening, and happens again every time you reread the work.

You should quote from the text to prove your point, but please keep your quotes brief. This is a brief paper, and I want some of your opinion to fit in it. Keep in mind that this is an exercise in applying academic literacy. Your tone, style, and diction should reflect the impression you wish to give about the validity of your opinion. Remember, there are no wrong interpretations, only interpretations that lack the proper supporting evidence.
