Questions:

Descartes:

1. Explain why Descartes’ rejects both sense experience and mathematics as the foundations for his house of knowledge.  Be clear, concise, appeal to example, and refer to the text often.

Ruether:

1. Explain in detail Ruether’s argument that all forms of oppression are rooted in belief in or residue of Cartesian mind/body dualism.  Appeal to at least two of Ruether’s examples in your explanation. Remember to be clear, concise, use examples, and appeal to the text often.

Beauvoir:

1. Explain why Beauvoir argues being a “woman” is not identical to being biologically female. Next, explain what Beauvoir means when she says women are the “Other” of the human race, illustrating her point with examples. Be clear, concise, use examples, and appeal to the text often.

Young:

1. Explain in detail Young’s three modalities of feminine bodily movement (ambiguous transcendence, inhibited intentionality, and discontinuous unity), including examples for each.

• The writing has been proofread for grammar.
