Classmate Stefan’s post:
I will be discussing the Healthy and Young group and their incentives of obtaining insurance. Most young and healthy people don’t even think about the Affordable Care Act, or don’t even know what it means for them.1 Some worry about other things in life, and just take the risk of living a hurt/illness free life. It works but nobody can really control the future of unexpected events, or illnesses of the individual because if a person needs immediate medical attention then they’ll probably be in a very tough situation of paying the costs. This is actually bitter sweet because it lets them know that they need to be insured incase a similar situation arises in the future.
Another reason why they are uninsured is the limited access to free, or low-cost primary care around the community.2 According to Athena Health, over fifty percent of uninsured patients have to pay for primary care, and over seventy percent of uninsured patients pay for Level three primary care visits.2 Level three is mainly for basic examinations and treatment recommendations from the doctor, or what other people call a “check-up”. Although it really isn’t important for the healthy and young to get insurance; it is very reliable incase an unforeseen event happens, or there are no free primary care clinics near by to treat the person. If things happen, the person is financially worried compared to making a fast recovery and feeling stress free. This can be easily established by making the right steps of the group to learn more about health insurance, and the different policies that fits the best for that individual.

My Post:
Every individual is required to ensure that they subscribe to the available health insurance coverage and ensure that they pay monthly premiums to avoid accrued penalties for defaulting.1 However, there are individuals who are not covered under any healthcare policy due to their inability to afford the cost of care. There is need to ensure better focus and engagement so that individuals are encouraged to subscribe to a healthcare insurance policy based on their financial ability to afford the cost of care. This discussion will focus on the mature and secure group.
The secure and mature group includes individuals who can afford the cost of care and are more likely to subscribe to any of the existing healthcare insurance coverage plans. In my opinion, incentives such as a member rewards component would encourage members to obtain and maintain insurance coverage. The rewards component could include incentive such as gift cards and discounted health care items. Being able to subscribe to a healthcare policy plays an important role in creating an effective environment under which it would be possible to focus on other issues considering the greater part in maintaining the cost of healthcare through the shared pool of premiums.3 Some programs even offer medical coverage assistance in the event of over qualifying income levels. Programs such as MaineCare offer an elderly or disabled adult who is over income for their standard program “Medically Needy” coverage providing a safety net for high medical bills.2
It’s often easier and faster to achieve quality healthcare when having healthcare insurance coverage. The cost of healthcare is significantly increasing, and the trends show that it will be very difficult to afford quality healthcare without having an insurance policy. Therefore to ensure financial security, there is need to ensure that there’s a greater environment under which an individual’s financial position is protected by ensuring the cost of healthcare is managed effectively through the healthcare insurance companies.
