The Emergence of AIDS pandemic has caused development in commercial sex working such that many people leave the trade because of the fear of AIDS. Scientists document that the AIDS took a long time to discover. Before its discovery, it is thought to have killed many people than estimated. People suffering from AIDS die of opportunistic diseases such so earlier medic could not identify the real cause of the disease. Therefore, in Thailand, commercial sex industry is a fully grown industry and during the AIDS, pandemic, many people, most of them women were thought to be infected before surveillance and control strategies. The Government supplied commercial sex workers with condoms to mitigate the epidemic. But this disease saw many local commercial sex workers leave the industry to avoid the risk dying. Mitigation in form of condoms was thought to assist in controlling the infection rate. This is a good start. You present the authors’ aim and their research problem. It is not very clear, however, what their argument is, nor what the evidence they use in support of their argument. State these very clearly.
The importance of this article to my argument is that it presents an important topic worth mentioning when discussing commercial sex industries in Thailand. From the perspective of the oldest profession in Thailand, this industry was affected by the HIV epidemic/pandemic. Not only did the disease degrade the human resources and population for Thailand, more and more people’s economy deteriorated because breadwinners died. In Thailand, many younger women were participating in the trade, which was perceived highly paying than any professional training then. Before the AIDS epidemic, condom use was not practiced hence many people were exposed to this disease. This article will assist me evaluate the economic impact of the emergence of AIDS pandemic as it pertains to sex industries in Thailand.
