Select an issue or theme from I, Robot and write an argument of a minimum of
four FULL pages, using outside research.
The goal is to understand how research can transform, deepen, and complicate a topic. You will
also need to have an argument—one that persuades your audience why your perspective on the
issue is a valid one.
o Today, we will brainstorm topics together in class. (Also use the viewing guide!)
o For next class, you should come with a good idea of your topic because we will discuss
research, and you will have time to start finding sources.

SOURCES: You must use at least four sources for this essay, not counting the film. At
least two must be peer-reviewed. (Note that not all sources found in a library database are
peer-reviewed—be sure to click the box and check for the symbol!) You may not cite
Wikipedia, and you should not use a source if you cannot determine its author or origin. You
may use iBook readings. (If you use any number of iBook readings, you must still have at
least three more sources.)
THESIS: must be argumentative. This means a reasonable person is able to disagree with it
and respond with a valid and sophisticated reciprocal argument.
CITATIONS: You must cite any sources you use on a References page AND in the body of
your paper. In-text citations will be paramount, since you will be using multiple sources.
