Leaders, at all levels within the organization, must understand how to successfully complete their roles and expectations; this understanding impacts the success or failure of a company.

By completing the research project, you will be able to evaluate how your selected leaders were influenced by or displayed the various aspects of leadership covered in this course.

Select two historical leaders (non-political) with one having made a positive contribution in a leadership role (i.e., effective leader) James Mattis (retired USMC General and 26th US Secretary of Defense) and the other having made a negative contribution in a leadership role (i.e., ineffective leader) Les Moonves (previous chairman and CEO of CBS).

Guidelines for completing the deliverables:
• Each non-political leader must be or have been a business or world leader from 2000 to the present.
• Provide three separate reasons (with referenced examples) to justify the reason the selected leaders were a positive (i.e., effective) or a negative (ineffective) leader.
• Identify, compare, and contrast at least two different leadership styles of each selected leader. Be sure to add applicable leadership theories and concepts introduced in this course.
• You must include at least three outside references for each leader, for a total of seven (7) references (minimum) for the research project final written submission.
• The textbook will be used as a reference, it will count toward the seven (7) required sources. ISBN = 9781285866352. The book is called “Leadership, theory, application & skill development”. It is the 6th edition.
• The research project will be submitted through Turnitin, a plagiarism detection tool.

Construct the research paper sections as per the following:

• Table of Contents
• Executive Summary – Brief summary of the purpose of your research capturing the main points. In this summary, you will provide the audience with an overview of the entire research project without having to read the entire research project final submission. Order the points in your summary chronologically (where applicable) to match your research project outline. The summary should include the following:
o An introduction: Start the summary by identifying your research project audience which is your professor and the board of directors. This introduction should capture the reading audience’s attention. Length: 1-2 paragraphs
o Statement of the purpose: Provide concise yet informative paragraphs offering only the important and essential information about your research project and an introduction of your approved leaders. A good way to do this is to provide a short synopsis of what makes the selected leaders effective or ineffective, in your opinion. Consider using a very brief referenced example for each leader. • Five Models of Personality and Traits of Effective Leaders or Ineffective Leaders (Chapter Two) – Discuss the personalities and traits of your leaders.

• Influencing Styles (Chapter Five) – Discuss how your leaders influenced people through power, politics, networking or negotiations.
