You may have noticed that the materials this week demonstrate how active listening and comprehensible input go hand in hand. Review the following four resources:

Next, select one of the two options below to complete the assignment.
 

Option One: Develop an activity where active listening and comprehensible input are used to help students achieve an overall learning objective (one that is appropriate for your future students’ learning level). Find two or more sources and references appropriate for your future student populations’ learning level (Pre-K to graduate school). Use one of the following web-based tools to present your activity:

  • Screenr
  • Storybird 

Your entire presentation should not exceed five minutes. Use visuals to help you convey your message more succinctly as you explain the activity and its components. Imagine that you are presenting the material to your future class via a video.
In your video, you must:

  • Give the lesson a title. 
  • Present an overview of what is expected. 
  • Explain how this activity connects to the overall      lesson or learning objective. 
  • Include your state standards or Common Core State      Standards. 
  • Cite at least two scholarly sources, using APA format      in your presentation.

Your presentation will be evaluated on:

  • Clarity of speech (make sure you have practiced before      recording). 
  • Tone (make sure you are positive and engaging). 
  • Quality of visuals/props/audiovisual materials (with      screen capture). 
  • Thoroughness of instructions. 
  • Well-established expectations. 
  • Total use of time. 

 Option Two: Compose a three- to four-page paper (not including title and reference pages) formatted according to APA style. Your paper must:

  • Explain the benefits of active listening.
  • Describe an activity where active listening and      comprehensible input are used to help students achieve an overall learning      objective.
  • Reveal how you will develop future activities that rely      on active listening and comprehensible input to support and increase      second language learner achievement.
  • Include two or more scholarly sources that are      appropriate for your future student populations’ learning level (Pre-K to      graduate school).

Also, be sure to cite your sources in APA format, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
