Disney movies, and the lessons they contain, have influenced three generations. Therefore, Disney’s incredible importance should be understood and appreciated. Disney was first founded in Los Angeles by Walt Disney and his brother Roy. Mickey Mouse was born just five years later, in 1925. Soon afterwards, Disney created Mickey’s friends Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck, Minnie, and the rest. By 1937, Disney moved to Burbank and released its first full length film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film was well received and Disney began making more feature length movies, including Fantasia, Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and more. Disney began making live-action films in the 1940s. For example, Disney created the Mickey Mouse Club in the 1950s. Other examples of Disney’s first few live-action films include Mary Poppins, Davy Crockett, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. As Disney’s repertoire of films grew, so too did its influence. Today, Disney is synonymous with childhood. Children around the world watch its movies and shows— both animated, CGI, and live-action—, as well as listen to its music, visit its theme parks, and play with its toys. Disney even owns many of the classics now, like Marvel and the Star Wars Franchise.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I really like Disney movies. On the other hand, Disney is responsible for almost every movie I’ve ever seen so it’s not like I know about anything else!
