For this assignment you willrely on your previous observational experiences and knowledge about a formal organization with whichyou are currently associated or have been associated in the past. Your paper needs to be at least threetyped, double-spaced pages in length (10 to 12 font) and needs to include your name. Submit your paper(by the due date listed in your syllabus) through the course Assignment section. This paper should besubmitted as an attachment in a Word document. Use APA format to list your textbook as a source. Noother sources are required as this is not a traditional research paper; however, if you use any additionalsources they must be listed in APA style at the end of your paper. In-text citations must be used whenappropriate. Review the material in the course syllabus on Academic Honesty and Student Conduct.LABEL EACH SECTION SEPARATELY and write each section as an essay. Proof read your paper. You willlose points for technical errors such as spelling and grammar mistakes and for not following directions.Cover all the topics mentioned in each section. Each of the three sections listed below is worth 100points for a total of 300 points. This organizationneeds to be an organization which you have experienced over a period of time. For sectionone you must: Give a brief introduction to your organization and explain your role in theorganization. Specify the part or parts of the organization which will be the focus of yourpaper. Next you need to identify your formal organization and categorize it by type or types(normative, coercive and/or utilitarian as found in chapter 6). Explain why you consider it tobe the type or types you have mentioned. Next connect your organization to a specific socialinstitution (economic, political, educational or other institution) and explain why you havemade this categorization. Finally, using the “five essential tasks†of social institutions(chapter 5) connect your organization to one or more of the essential tasks your organizationprovides for society as a whole in terms of its institutional category and provide yourrationale. (100 points)Use micro sociology to analyze patterns found within your chosen formal organization. Forsection two you must: Describe the routine day-to-day interaction patterns that you haveobserved within your organization. Describe the roles of routine participants within theorganization. Discuss how specific concepts/terms from the Dramatically approach and the Sociology of Emotions relate to the social dynamics in this organization. Concepts from thedramaturgical approach would be terms such as impression management, front stagebehavior, studied non-observance and/or face-saving behavior. Concepts from the sociologyof emotions are “feeling rules†and “emotional laborâ€. Next explain how the followingconcepts relate to your observations: in-group, out-group, primary group, secondary group,reference group and role exit. Give specific examples of leadership styles (democratic,authoritarian and/or laissez-faire) and specific leadership functions (expressive and/orinstrumental) used by both formal and informal leaders within your organization. Discusshow group conformity and groupthink relate to the patterns you have observed. Useexamples from your organization to illustrate the concepts/terms you use in this section ofyour paper. Be certain to specifically name the concepts/terms which you are using in youranalysis. (100 points)Use macro sociology to analyze your organization. For section three you must: Discusswhether or not your organization is a bureaucracy or is partially a bureaucracy by analyzingyour organization using each of the five characteristics of bureaucracy listed in chapter 6 ofyour textbook. Discuss how the structure of your organization affects the interactionpatterns of individuals within the organization. Discuss other social institutions and formalorganizations in the society which have an impact on the structure and functioning of this organization. Explain the potential impact of these other macro structures on yourorganization. (100 points)
