Schwartz proposes that “For example, if a particular collective action results in bad consequences of a magnitude x, then each person who participated in the collective action is responsible for I /x amount of the total wrongdoing.” This 1/x formula does not capture what Schwartz means. Let x be the total wrongdoing. The idea is supposed to be that the total wrongdoing is divided by the number of people who contribute to the wrongdoing. Let that number of people be n. The share you get, then, is x/n. Later Schwartz writes, “Similarly, buying two such products would generate 2/x culpability, three products 3/x culpability, and so forth” This is not correct either. The correct numbers are 2x/n and 3x/n.
