What are the main differences and similarities?There are two theories of speech perception and they include motor theory and auditory theory. Motor theory refers to an association of speech perception and speech production (Bruderer et al., 2015). The motor senses and information are used for the production of speech. Language comprehension is influenced by this theory since the motor skills determine the nature and the speed of language acquisition. On the other hand, auditory theory explains that speech perception is derived from the properties of the earing or the auditory system. Language therefore is influenced by the theory based on the concepts that an individual can listen to (Bruderer et al., 2015). The difference between the two theories is that motor theory is integrated and involves a number of senses in the language perception while auditory system relies solely on the competency of the hearing system.
