Forecasting
Forecasting involves projecting the number of patients that a facility expects, and planning on how to serve them efficiently and effectively. It also embroils aligning the budgets, preparing for adequate deliveries and having enough staffs to execute all the duties (Axiom EPM, n.d). Through this process, there is limited strain on the facilities such that there is a reduction on the people that queue waiting for services. The administration also has to focus on the accommodation of both in-patients and out-patients so that each can receive the appropriate treatment, and they can spend less time in the hospital. Notwithstanding, there is the initiation of schemes to ensure there is a reduction in the number of secondary infections inside the facility.
Health facilities have to be aware of contagious diseases that could affect a significant part of the population, and they have to make plans to protect all the people that are in contact with the infected patients. For example, when there is an Ebola outbreak in a region, the administration of facilities has to ensure that there is adequate forecast on the number of patients they are likely to receive in a particular period (White & Griffith, 2016). During this time, they may request for additional staffing including specialized professionals that can deal with the situation. In addition to this, they have to identify the protective apparel that the employees will use.
Weather changes and environmental conditions are also factors that administrations of health facilities have to consider in forecasting due to the increase in the number of patients. For instance, when the water sources have been polluted due to heavy rainfall, it is expected that some diseases such as dysentery and cholera will increase. In such a situation, the policymakers and leaders of hospitals have to reflect on the situation and make projections on the expected number of casualties (Hall, 2013). With such preparations, it is easy to avoid deaths and complications that may arise.
