1. Develop a problem statement related to a specific leadership theory.
•The problem  statement  is the fundamental building block of any research study. A problem statement addresses a “gap” or missing information in the field that you are studying. It  might be that  information  is  missing, or there is a paucity of information, in a particular topic area. The problem statement should be significant enough to help generate new information, it  should lead to future research opportunities, it should  lend itself  to data collection, and it should be ethically written.
•The statement of  the problem  is  the focal point  in any research, and it is  integrally related to the overarching research question. The research problem  is a concern, or issue, in the field.  It  is a problem that needs to be solved, or  something that we need more information about. A  helpful  way to develop a problem statement  is by conducting a cursory review of scholarly  literature in  your topic area and reading about what has alreadybeen done, and then focus on the “need for future research”section at the end of journal articles. This  is a  valuable section that will give you some ideas about “need areas” in the topic of interest. An example problem statement is: “The screen time on social media continues toincrease among young adults  in our country which is  impacting face-to-face connectedness”. 2. Develop  a  measurable  research question.
•Relate the research question directly  with the problem  statement and the research method (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed  method) approach you intend to use. For instance, research methods  impact how you word your research question (RQ) as follows.
•Qualitative research questions beginwith “How?” “Why?” or, “What is the lived experience of?”•Here is an example of a qualitative research question: What do young adults believe is the relationship between the use of social  media and emotional intimacy  in relationships?
•Here are examples of a quantitative research questions: “What is the impactof 2 or more hours spent on social  media per day, versus  less  than 2 hours per day, on emotional intimacyin relationships among young adults?” or, “Towhat degree or extent do the hours spent on social  media per day impact the emotional intimacyin relationships among young adults?” or, “Does time spent on social  media impact the emotional  intimacy in relationships among young adults?”3. Choose  an existing  theory  that is  related  to  your  topic.
3. State and cite the theory.  For example, if you are proposing to study on social  media and connectedness, you might choose and cite the “ConnectednessTheory.”4. Conduct a  brief  scholarly  literature  review on your  topic  area.
4. Identify 3 scholarly journal articles published within the past 10 years that are related to your topic. Write a synthesized discussion of the author’s findings, rather than summarizing one article after another. Leadership Theory Issue Research Proposal
