Does the thesis introduce a topic and a specific direction for that topic, i.e. which literary elements the writer uses and for what purpose: use of figurative language and/or sound devices to express certain subject(s) or theme(s)? Does the thesis cover the entire assigned book, not just a few selections from the book? Do you mention who wrote the book and name of the book for each essay assignment? Remember, your essay is on the entire book, not merely a few selections from the book.

- Include several quotes (3-4 per paragraph)* that illustrate how the literary devices you’ve chosen express the poet’s subject matter or theme.
